New $45 Million Complex Coming to Frankenmuth, Michigan

FRANKENMUTH TOWNSHIP, MI — A $45 million indoor sports complex is currently being planned in Frankenmuth, Michigan after being discussed for more than a decade. The complex is expected to house several popular sports such as football, basketball, baseball, soccer, softball, lacrosse, and volleyball when it opens in early 2025. The complex is estimated to be around 230,000 square-foot in size total, with two separate facilities on the property.

Frankenmuth is known for its German architecture and festivals year-round as seen in a downtown shopping district.

A 130,000 square-foot indoor facility will house basketball and volleyball as well as a large meeting space and a walking track. A separate 100,000 square-foot outdoor facility will host baseball and softball, football, lacrosse, and soccer.

The facility is expected to boost sports-related tourism in the town due to its size and ability to host multiple events at a single time. Investors of the complex estimate a first-year increase of 15,000 hotel stays alone.

“This project is something Frankenmuth has been talking about and wanting for about 15 years,” said Bridget Smith, Frankenmuth city manager.

In addition to the 230,000 square-foot facility, there will also be a new medical treatment center on site in collaboration with the University of Michigan. The facility is expected to boost sports-related tourism in the town due to its size and ability to host multiple events at a single time. Investors of the complex estimate a first-year increase of 15,000 hotel stays alone. They also expect the facility to be able to host not only local and state events, but national ones as well.
