Tickets on Sale for 2022 World Games in Birmingham

BIRMINGHAM, ALA.– Tickets for the 2022 World Games in Birmingham, Ala. are now for sale. The event, to be held between July 7-17, will host over 3600 athletes from over 100 countries worldwide.

The World Games, occurring every year after the Olympics, host sports that were not present at the Olympic Games. Next year, over 34 sports including softball, inline hockey, archery, sumo wrestling, and more. Those who organized the event are expecting an economic impact of over $256 million during the games.

Birmingham, announced in 2015 as the host location for the 2022 World Games, beat out several other bidders including Lima in Peru and Ufa in Russia to host the games. Birmingham also announced the mascots for the games—Vulcan and Vesta. Those familiar with the Vulcan statue in Birmingham know the amount of history it holds. Vulcan, cast-iron statue representing the Roman god of fire, iron, and blacksmiths. The now staple in Birmingham culture was finished in the year 1904, just in time for a fair in St. Louis.

A few details have also already been explained to the public regarding the opening ceremony. Alabama natives Sara Evans, a country music singer, and Randy Owen, a member of the record-breaking country music group, Alabama, are set to perform during the ceremony with more details to come later.
