MIDLAND, TexasDiamondback Energy has donated $7.5 million towards the Midland Athletic Syndicate (MAS) Sports Complex.

In a news release, Diamondback Energy CEO Travis Stice says, “It is a facility that has been needed for our growing city to help reduce the need for area youth athletic teams to travel out of the city for games.”

“We need to invest in our community for Midland to become the city people truly want to call home,” he continued. “We are proud of our Midland roots and will continue to do what we can to make Midland a place where people want to work live, work, and play.”

The MAS Sports Complex will offer more than 100,000 square feet of playing surface, with six full-size basketball courts (which can convert into 12 full-size volleyball courts) and one indoor soccer arena, which can be used for other sports. The complex will also offer locker rooms, concessions, spectator seating, and rooms for education and meetings.

Stice says the investment will not only offer children a safer place to play but also have a positive impact on the local economy by allowing the city to host tournaments and league play.

According to a September article from CBS7.com, the complex will cost around $35 million and it is expected to take 12 to 18 months to complete once ground breaks.
