MESA, Ariz.  –  A massive Arizona sports complex that has faced financial troubles throughout its short history once again has a new name.

Legacy Park is now known as Arizona Athletic Grounds, already the third name for the facility which opened just over two years ago.

Originally known as Bell Bank Park, that company rescinded its naming rights due to the financial troubles of the park’s owners, Legacy Cares, a non-profit organization that built the park, which filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy in May 2023.

In December, AZ Athletic Associates LLC, founded by San Francisco-based private equity firm Burke Operating Partners and Rocky Mountain Resources, purchased the park for $25.8 million.

As reported by local television station ABC 15, all Legacy branding was set to be removed and replaced with the new name.

Michael Burke, president of Arizona Athletic Grounds, told ABC 15 they are focused on “creating warmer environments, more music-based events, improving food and beverage.”

According to the article, the new owners are looking to address concerns regarding spotty Wi-Fi, a lack of hotels surrounding the property, and spectators having to pay for parking at some events.

Legacy Park features eight baseball and softball fields; 19 basketball courts; 35 soccer, football, and lacrosse fields; 57 indoor volleyball courts; and 41 pickleball courts. In addition, the complex features 25 acres of festival space, a 2.7-acre “Great Lawn,” a 3,000-seat outdoor stadium; and a 2,800-seat indoor arena.
