ANN ARBOR, Mich.—
The Ann Arbor Sports Commission to continue the Kids Race Free program for a second year, allowing children 10 and younger to participate at no cost when registered with a participating adult.

The program applies to all Ann Arbor-area Epic Races events, including the Epic Pi(e) Run, Ann Arbor Firecracker 5K, Probility Ann Arbor Marathon, and Kroger A2 Turkey Trot. During its first year, approximately 200 children took part, representing an estimated $7,500 in waived registration fees.

The Ann Arbor Sports Commission, a division of Destination Ann Arbor, supports initiatives that promote community wellness and position the city as an active, inclusive destination.

“We believe sports and fitness events should be accessible to everyone, especially families,” says Meaghan Hughes, director of the Ann Arbor Sports Commission. “The Kids Race Free program aligns with our mission to support inclusive, community-driven events that encourage participation at every age.”

Several hundred children participated across four races during the inaugural year, many running alongside parents or caregivers for the first time. Families also returned for multiple events throughout the year.

“At Epic Races, we like to say E is for Everyone,” says Eva Solomon, founder and CEO of Epic Races. “Cost should never be a barrier to fitness event participation, especially for kids. This partnership allows families to race together and build healthy habits in a welcoming environment.”

Epic Races produces more than 20 multisport and endurance events annually. Based in Ann Arbor, the company has launched events including Michigan’s first women’s triathlon and multiple marathon and half-marathon races.

Registration for upcoming events is available at epicraces.com.
