Late last month, ground broke on Crossroads Sports Complex, a $70 million complex in New Lenox, Ill.
The facility, to be designed by JLG Architects, Sports Facilities Companies, and Northern Builders, will be located at the crossroad of interstates 355 and 80, about 45 minutes southwest of Chicago.
According to a press release from JLG Architects, the first phase of the 100-acre complex will include a welcome center, 29 youth baseball and softball fields, 12 soccer or multi-use fields, two full-service concession stands, a beer garden, playground, and 10 batting cages. The press release states the fenced-in fields will be adjustable to accommodate athletes of all ages, and the property’s draining system will allow the fields to be ready in just a few minutes after heavy rain. This phase is expected to be completed by spring 2025.
After that, a second phase will include a 122,000-square-foot fieldhouse with basketball and volleyball courts, which can also host wrestling and pickleball events.
Once all phases are complete, the complex is expected to draw in more than 600,000 visitors annually from a multi-state region, with an expected annual economic impact of more than $30 million.
