ERIE, Pa.—Hundreds of athletes and spectators are expected in Erie this weekend as the city welcomes two major sporting events—the Mid-Atlantic Broomball Tournament and the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference (AMCC) Women’s Bowling Round Robin Tournament.
The Mid-Atlantic Broomball Tournament, organized by the Pittsburgh Broomball Club, will take place at LECOM Sports Park. The event will feature men’s and women’s teams competing in full-ice tournament play under the latest American Broomball Alliance rules.
Teams from Indiana, Maryland, Nebraska, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania and Washington, D.C., are scheduled to compete. Nearly a dozen of the region’s top broomball teams will face off in games consisting of 15-minute halves. Games are set from 8 a.m. to 10:20 p.m. Saturday and from 7 a.m. to 11:10 a.m. Sunday.
“We’re excited to bring the Mid-Atlantic Broomball Tournament back to Erie,” says Tyler McGuigan, Mid-Atlantic Broomball tournament director. “This event has grown into one of the highlights of our season, and Erie’s facilities and community support make it a great place for athletes to come together for a great weekend of competition.”
Also taking place Saturday and Sunday is the AMCC Women’s Bowling Round Robin Tournament at Eastland Bowl.
The two-day bowling event will feature women’s teams from Penn State Behrend, Hilbert College, La Roche University, Pitt-Bradford, Saint Vincent College and William Smith College. Teams will compete in round-robin match play as part of the conference’s regular-season schedule, earning points toward postseason qualification.
Both events are supported by the Erie Sports Commission, which continues to attract regional and collegiate tournaments to the area.
