ERIE, Pa.—Erie will be the host city for two sports events this weekend: the World Ninja League Midwest Regional Championship, a style of obstacle course competition, and the United States Canine Scent Sports Trial.
The 2025 World Ninja League Midwest Regional Championship will take place Friday through Sunday at Sinai Sports. The event is expected to welcome approximately 500 participants, ranging in age from six to above 40, from Western New York, Ohio, Michigan, West Virginia, Pennsylvania, and Canada.
“We’re excited to host the World Ninja League Midwest Regional Championships for the second time in Erie,” says Steve Dvoranchik, owner of Sinai Sports. “The best part about hosting the event is seeing the participants completing the obstacles, cheering, hitting the buzzer, and getting excited. It’s a wonderful and supportive community that I am proud to be a part of.”

On Sunday, the United States Canine Scent Sports Trial, hosted by Groovy Pooch, is taking place at the Fairview Township Building from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. It will feature 30 dogs, who will be challenged to sniff out scents like birch, anise, and clove in various settings, guided by their handlers.
According to its website, the goal of United States Canine Scent Sports (USCSS) is to provide a user-friendly organization committed to promoting Scent Work events that are fun for the dog, the handler, and the event hosts.
