PALM COAST,  Fla. – The City of Palm Coast is proposing a large sports complex after the completion of a lengthy feasibility study.

Set in motion through the city’s 2022 Strategic Action Plan, the study aimed to assess the viability of the complex, considering factors such as economic impact, community engagement, and the potential benefits for both residents and visitors.

The proposed sports complex, set to be located on the currently undeveloped western section of Palm Coast, encompasses 112,000 square feet of indoor facilities with basketball courts, volleyball courts, multipurpose rooms, and support space. Outdoors, the facility would be comprised of 16 synthetic turf fields, four natural grass fields, five support buildings, and a court for food trucks. City officials believe the venue has the potential to serve as an economic catalyst, attracting visitors and creating sustainable revenue streams.

Alternative funding sources are being explored, including grants, partnerships, and collaborative initiatives. The goal is to identify sustainable revenue streams without competing with private businesses.

Efforts are underway to secure a location for the sports complex on the undeveloped west side of the city. Discussions with the landowner are progressing, according to a city news release. By hosting tournaments and events, Palm Coast aims to capture the attention of sports groups, many of which currently travel to other destinations such as Central and South Florida.

City officials believe the sports complex would allow local leagues to host tournaments, draw in visitors, and expand the community’s commercial footprint, which would reduce the burden on the residential tax base.

While Palm Coast City Council voiced support for the project, members also emphasized the importance of seeking private funding sources.

According to observerlocalnews.com, Sports Facilities Companies, the company that completed the feasibility study, says it could cost about $90 million to build the complex.
