Ground has broken on the Richmond Regional Sports Complex in Richmond, Ky. The ceremony, held on Nov. 3, welcomed several local officials, including Mayor Robert Blythe.

As reported by the local newspaper, the Richmond Register, the sports complex will include 11 full-sized soccer fields, two of which will also be used for youth football; five multi-purpose fields; tennis, pickleball, volleyball, and basketball courts; a dog park; picnic shelters; and miles of multi-use walking and running trails.

The complex was originally approved in November 2021.

According to the Register, Blythe said the facility is an example that Richmond is “poised for greater greatness,” and the sports complex is something that businesses and employers will look at when they consider coming to Richmond.

The project, priced at $52 million, is slated for completion in 2026.
