MOUNT PLEASANT TOWNSHIP, Pa. – Some rural residents are speaking up against plans to build a sports center in the area.
As reported by Local21News.com, developers are proposing to convert a portion of a golf course—located near Mount Pleasant Township in Adams County, Pa.—into a sports complex with 17 soccer fields and 1,400 parking spaces.
According to the article, several residents in the area believe the development will bring too many people and vehicles with it.
During a local meeting about the proposal, local farmer Glenn Wenger said the roads are not designed to carry many cars, let alone the thousands that may arrive at a massive sports complex. Wenger says there are no “curbs” or “sidewalks” on the roads, and he’d like to see it stay that way. In the article, another local resident, Tom Seymour, was quoted as saying he believes the possibility of the sports complex getting even larger is being “undersold.”
According to the article, the developer is open to adding an indoor facility to the project. While the TV station did reach out to the developer, no response was received.
