CHULA VISTA, Calif.—
USRowing announced the cancellation of the 2025 USRowing Southwest Masters Championships, due to another event permitted with the city of San Diego taking place in the same location, at the same time. The Championships event was scheduled for June 21 to 22 at Lower Otay Lake in Chula Vista, Calif.

Despite the Chula Vista Elite Athlete Training Center’s (CVEATC) efforts to work with the city of San Diego, they ultimately concluded that they had to cancel the event and offer all registered participants a full refund on entry fees. The event had been scheduled to take place in partnership with the CVEATA since 2022. According to their statement, while the CVEATC does not own or wholly control the Lower Otay Lake Reservoir, their operations to date have not required permits for lake access and usage.

USRowing is encouraging all Southwest participants to compete at the 2025 USRowing Northwest Masters Championships scheduled June 20 to 22 in Lowell, Ore., and are offering a 30 percent discount on entry fees to competitors who registered for the Southwest Regional Championships. The Phase I entry deadline has been extended to allow competitors to consider entering.

“USRowing and CVEATC deeply apologize for this disappointing and regretful turn of events,” reads a statement on the USRowing website. “We thank our community for its patience and resilience, and we look forward to delivering a competitive and rewarding experience at the USRowing Northwest Masters Championships.”
