ASHLAND, Ky.—
A new sports tourism facility is coming to Ashland, Kentucky, as construction on the Boyd County Sports Complex began earlier this month. With an anticipated completion date in the first quarter of 2027, the facility is expected to become a regional hub for athletics, recreation, and community events, serving residents throughout Boyd County and the surrounding area.

Once completed, the 121,126-square-foot complex will feature a 110,625-square-foot air-supported dome facility with an attached concrete masonry unit structure for the main lobby, along with 10,501 square feet of tenant improvement space for concessions, ticketing, and administrative offices.

Designed to support year-round programming, the complex will accommodate youth and adult leagues, tournaments, and community gatherings. Planned amenities include 35,000 square feet of indoor turf for baseball and soccer, 18 pickleball courts, 12 volleyball courts, six basketball courts, grab-and-go concessions, and administrative and conference spaces.

“The Boyd County Fiscal Court remains committed to improving the quality of life of our citizens with an emphasis on economic development through tourism,” says Boyd County judge/executive Eric Chaney. “Camp Landing Entertainment District has been a major contributor to Boyd County’s $160 million tourism economic impact, and with the addition of the Boyd County Sports Complex, our region looks to become a mainstay for sports tourism for years to come. We are excited to partner with ARCO National and Sports Facilities Companies to continue Boyd County’s trajectory as the premier tourism destination in Eastern Kentucky.”

ARCO National Construction is providing design-build services for the project, bringing experience in developing large-scale recreational and community facilities. The company will help deliver a venue designed to expand athletic opportunities, support youth development, and attract regional tournaments.

“Our team is honored to partner with Boyd County on a project that will have a lasting impact on the community,” says Russell Gall, principal at ARCO National Construction. “This facility is about more than sports. It’s about creating a space where people can gather, compete, and connect. We’re proud to help deliver a project that will support local families and contribute to the region’s growth for years to come.”

The Boyd County Sports Complex is a major investment in Ashland’s future, creating new opportunities for recreation, sports tourism, and economic growth throughout Eastern Kentucky.
