More than 100 event rights holders, venue directors, elected officials, community leaders, and their guests, were in attendance.

Michigan to host 2025 World Ice Fishing Championship for first time

The West Michigan Sports Commission and USAngling are hosting the 2025 XXI World Ice Fishing Championship (WIFC) for the first time in Michigan from Feb. 11 to 16. The event will take place on Tamarack Lake in Lakeview, approximately 16 miles north of Greenville in West Michigan.

Registration now open for 9th annual Lake Erie Cyclefest

Registration for The Erie Sports Commission’s 2025 Lake Erie Cyclefest, sponsored by Highmark Blue Cross Blue Shield and AHN Saint Vincent Hospital, begins Jan. 21. This year’s event will take place July 24-27 and features six rides over four days across Erie County. The proceeds will benefit nonprofit partner organizations.

Amateur sporting events generate record numbers for West Michigan

The non-profit West Michigan Sports Commission (WMSC), which hosts youth and amateur sports events, reported that youth/amateur sports tourism generated $90.8 million in estimated economic impact for the region in 2024 through 112 events. That’s a 65 percent gain from 2019 and the highest year yet for visitor spending.

MLV launches as premier league for USA Women’s Pro Volleyball

MLV Holdings, a newly formed investment group, recently announced the launch of Major League Volleyball (MLV), a women’s professional volleyball league supported by more than $100 million in committed funding. MLV is expected to launch in January 2026 and will feature 10 teams, including the Omaha Supernovas, the leading franchise in professional volleyball.

The Atlantic City Sports Commission (ACSC) celebrated its 10th anniversary this month. Since its inception, the ACSC has played a big role in shaping Atlantic City as a east coast destination for diverse sporting events, from cheer and dance competitions to marathons and surfing championships.
