Covering an area roughly the size of the State of Delaware, Snohomish County, Washington offers diverse scenery, unique experiences, and a seemingly non-stop list of sports events taking place night and day. There are almost 20 cities in this county, so seeing it all in two days was not a possibility. We did our best.

Earlier this year I requested some information about Turnstone Center for Children and Adults with Disabilities for an article is was writing on adaptive sports. Visit Fort Wayne, the Fort Wayne/Allen County Convention and Visitors Bureau followed up with the information and then asked if I was interested in visiting Fort Wayne, Ind., for a site visit of its sports facilities and city. I jumped at the chance to see Fort Wayne for the first time.

Big news from this year’s symposium was the announcement of a new branding initiative that changes the name from NASC to SportsETA (Sports Events & Tourism Association) in a change designed to represent a more inclusive organization to lead the sports and event tourism industry and its members.

I recently spent the day exploring my hometown. This adventure was the result of many conversations with the local tourism board and the sports commission about how we, in the industry, travel near and far but often neglect the note-worthy places in our own backyard.
