HOOVER, Ala. — Sports Facilities Management and the Hoover City Council named E.J. Brophy as the new general manager of the Hoover Metropolitan Complex. Brophy replaces John Sparks who has been promoted by SFM.
Brophy has been serving as the Met Complex’s director of business development since September. He was previously an athletic director for the University of Alabama at Huntsville and the University of West Alabama. He spent 16 years at the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) as assistant athletic director.
Sparks assumed the general management duties in 2018. He has been promoted to an account executive position, overseeing multiple facilities for Sports Facilities Companies (SFC).
Sparks will continue working at the Met Complex’s Finley Center while overseeing Sand Mountain Park and Amphitheater in Albertville, Rocky Mount Sports Complex in North Carolina, and new facilities being built in South Bend, Texas; Bryan, Texas; and Richmond, Virginia.
Prior to serving in administrative and coaching roles, Brophy was an all-conference baseball player at UAB and a minor league catcher in the Philadelphia Phillies organization. He also coached at Samford University, the University of Montevallo, and Wallace Community College.
