EDISON, N.J. – The new $5 million Edison Sports Recreation Center could be opening early next spring in New Jersey.

As reported by MyCentralJersey.com, the local township is seeking bids to remove the existing building and construct the new building, including architectural, structural, and site work.

When open, the building will include training and practice facilities for youth leagues, namely cheerleading organizations, as well as wrestling, football, basketball, lacrosse, and others.

The article states, according to public documents, the new facility will be “a pre-engineered metal building with a surrounding one- or-two story podium structure framed of steel columns, steel beams, and a composite metal deck slab.” The documents also indicate both structures will be supported on concrete shallow foundations.

The website reports the facility will have two rooftop viewing decks overlooking a planned football field.

Local mayor Sam Joshi announced plans for the facility after taking office last year.

In a June 2022 article from the website, Joshi said at the time he was “disappointed” in the conditions that several local sports organizations were practicing in.

According to the article, funding for the project is through municipal long-term bonds, and a five percent down payment was included in the township’s 2022 budget.
