Elias Cup Establishes Maine As A Must Stop on the PBA Tour
PORTLAND, Maine (May 11, 2018) – Portland-based Bayside Bowl was once again filled with raucous fans and professional bowlers for a weekend of competition and celebration. In its fourth year at Bayside, the annual tournament in Maine, which was again televised nationally on ESPN, is a PBA Tour stop like no other.
“Hosting the PBA continues to be an amazing experience. We showcase the best bowlers in the world performing for the best fans in the world. The enthusiasm and energy from the week spill over into the entire year. It is also gratifying to show off our incredible staff and the work they are capable of,” said Charlie Mitchell, managing partner of Bayside Bowl.
The Elias Cup tournament was won by the Silver Lake Atom Splitters and had a field of seven additional teams including Dallas Strikers, Portland Lumberjacks, Philadelphia Hitmen, L.A. X, New York City WTT KingPins, Motown Muscle, and Brooklyn Styles.
“Conducting an event in a smaller market has two distinct advantages for the PBA. One is the attention given to us by the local media. The other is the community feel that envelops the tournament. Both of these contribute to the great value local sponsors and partners gain from our event. When the PBA comes to Portland (Maine) we feel like a part of the community,” said Tom Clark, Commissioner of the PBA.
The excitement from the fans, close to 450 in attendance during the tournament weekend, and bowlers solidifies Bayside Bowl and Portland, ME as one of the premier sporting destinations for bowling. The PBA event at Bayside consisted of 64 different players from 12 countries taking part in the competition.
The celebration kicked off early during the tournament week for for the third annual Full Plates Full Potential Strike Out Hunger Pro/Am Tournament. The event brings together the world’s top professional bowlers and Maine restaurateurs in friendly competition and common cause – to help change the circumstance of the one-in-four Maine kids who struggle with food insecurity.
Bayside Bowl will be hosting two PBA Tournaments in 2019.
Bayside Bowl will launch the inaugural PBA Playoffs, and the PBA League and Elias Cup will return for its fifth year. The PBA Playoffs will assemble the top 32 PBA bowlers in 2019 in a singles knockout tournament. Additionally, the PBA League and the Elias Cup will return, and all of these shows will air on Fox Sports Network and Fox Sports.
