Heidecker Named New Director of Sports For Visit Tallahassee

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. Nov. 16, 2017 – Amanda Heidecker has been promoted to director of sports for the Leon County Division of Tourism/Visit Tallahassee. Heidecker replaces Brian Hickey who is joining a state educational association.

Hickey was recently named executive director of the Florida Afterschool network. He served 12 years as sports marketing operations director for the Leon County Division of Tourism.

Heidecker has served as the Division’s assistant director of sports for the past five years and has made significant contributions to the continued growth of sports tourism in Tallahassee, according to the news release. Sports tourism has increased 90 percent in the past seven years and last year, more than 100 events resulted in $31.5 million in direct spending to the Tallahassee-Leon County economy.

Prior to joining Visit Tallahassee, Heidecker served as sports, education and tour and travel sales manager at the Doubletree by Hilton in Tallahassee for three years.

Joe Piotrowski, who joined Visit Tallahassee in 2016 as the director of leisure sales, has assumed the role of assistant director of sports.

She is a graduate of Florida State University where she received a bachelor’s degree in sports management and was a member of the university’s track and cross country teams. Heidecker had been instrumental in attracting and conducting championship cross country meets at Leon County’s award-winning Apalachee Regional Park. Last year, the park hosted four national championship meets and secured several major, future events at the park, including the 2021 NCAA Cross Country National Championship.
