MARYSVILLE, Wash. – Officials in Marysville, Wash., are planning a massive sports facility surrounded by apartments, a hotel, and family entertainment.
As reported by local newspaper The Herald, the city has announced details for a $73 million project, including a sports facility that would attract basketball and volleyball tournaments. Preliminary plans for the facility include eight basketball courts, which could be converted to volleyball courts.
According to the article, once established, city officials believe the venue would attract 30 to 45 tournaments a year and draw $37 million in annual consumer spending across the local region.
Tammy Dunn, executive director for Snohomish County Sports Commission, told The Herald that the area is already a premier sports destination, but this will “elevate” its standing.
The article states the planned facility could also potentially host gymnastics and cheerleading competitions and corporate events—perhaps even esports and MMA.
Other planned amenities include a 50,000-square-foot family entertainment center, a 7,000-square-foot bar and restaurant, 350 luxury apartments, and a 175-room hotel.
As reported, a 2019 report delivered to the city noted there is a “significant gap”’ in quality and well-sized basketball and volleyball venues in the area. The report also stated there is no comprehensive indoor sports complex within 200 miles of Snohomish County.
