Madison Area Sports Commission Lands Major Quidditch
“Quidditch players discovered the magic of the Greater Madison area with the US Quidditch regionals for amateur participants in November. Now the pro players are coming, and we know that local residents will get a thrill out of the skill and wizardry these players will bring,” said Jamie Patrick, vice president of the Madison Area Sports Commission in the announcement. “We worked with our partners in Middleton to secure this opportunity in a very competitive process. We are thankful that Major League Quidditch will provide Middleton and Madison a weekend of fun for Muggles of all ages.”
Ethan Sturm, MLQ co-founder and co-commissioner said, “The city has a long rich history of hosting sporting events at all levels, and our interactions with the City of Middleton staff have left us confident that they will be just as committed as we are to the success of our championship.”
MLQ’s season run from June to August and has 16 teams in major cities across the country. The 2017 finals were held in League City, Texas.
Quidditch is a mixed-gender, full-contact sport played by more than 500 teams in 26 countries.
“We’re excited to open the door for quidditch fans and show them everything Middleton has to offer,” said Julie Peterman, CMP, Middleton’s director of tourism. “We hope they’ll take a little time to discover the city while they’re here, and enjoy some of our 80 restaurants, visit our unique shops and explore our beautiful parks.”
