OAK BROOK, Ill. ─ Plasia, a new technology-based company helping student-athletes profit from their name, image, and likeness (NIL), is hosting its first-ever flagship event this summer.
Nike Champ Camp, to be held at Benedictine University in Lisle, Ill., from June 14 to 17, 2023, will offer a program for athlete development, complete with specialized instruction and seminars—to include NIL. Participants will experience how technology combined with athletics can improve their training and performance, with a focus on sprints and hurdles.
Open to both middle school and high school student athletes, participants in Nike Champ Camp will gain access to coaching expertise from Kareem Jackson (associate head track and field coach at the University of Wisconsin-Madison), Brenton Emanuel (assistant coach at the University of Nebraska), Aaliyah Brown (world champion athlete), and Justin Gatlin (world champion athlete). Nike Champ Camp can accommodate 375 student athletes, and registration is currently open through June 10th or until spaces are filled.
“Every athlete’s journey is personal and filled with moments that define their strengths on and off the field,” says Gatlin. “Our focus as coaches is to deliver big takeaways during this camp. It is a great opportunity to guide and inspire the next generation of student athletes to optimize in their name, image, and likeness.”
Plasia co-founders Derek Drew and Marquell Oliver recognized the need for a training camp focused on skill development and helping athletes navigate the evolving NIL landscape. Through their partnership with D1 Coaches and former Olympians, Nike Champ Camp will offer student athletes insights and resources for long-term success.
“Plasia is committed to providing student athletes with a comprehensive training experience that includes both on-field training and off-field education,” says Drew. “Growing up being a student athlete was expensive, especially while I competed through cancer during my final collegiate season. Through Champ Camp, we hope to deliver a meaningful roadmap for student athletes, empowering them with knowledge so they can take control of their career and build a brighter future.”
Notable camp features will include:
- D1 coaching
- Specialized training for sprints and hurdles
- Separate middle school and high school groups
- Champion scheduled workouts, instructional breakout sessions, and special guests
- NIL training
- Nike Champ Camp t-shirt for all participants
