WICHITA, Kan. — Mike Sharpe was named president and chief executive officer of the Greater Wichita Area Sports Commission.

Sharpe has served as the director of business development with the Greater Kansas City Sports Commission and Foundation for the past seven years.

Sharpe has more than 22 years of collegiate athletic coaching and administrative experience. He was assistant commissioner of the Greater West Conference for five years and Avila University’s athletic director for seven years. He also worked as an assistant men’s basketball coach at UMKC, Johnson County Community College, and Pratt Community College.

He has extensive connections with USA Gymnastics, U.S. Figure Skating, USA Boxing, USA Weightlifting, USA Volleyball, and USA BMX.
