SportsEvents Readers’ Choice Awards: All-Star Destinations Partners

1st – Asheville Buncombe Regional Sports Commission – Asheville, North Carolina

The Asheville Buncombe Regional Sports Commission serves Western North Carolina with its primary focus on Buncombe County.

It was formed in 2010 to attract sporting events and meetings to enhance the health, wellness, and quality of life for residents and sports enthusiasts and generate positive economic impact by promoting the region as a recognized sporting destination.

“We are a full-service sports commission able to assist event organizers in a variety of ways, including selecting a venue, hotel bookings and event planning,” said Andrew Lawrence, director of marketing with the Asheville Buncombe Regional Sports Commission. “With over a decade of experience, our team has the regional industry knowledge to help your event succeed.”

Demp Bradford, president of the Asheville Regional Sports Commission, said, “We’re excited to accept this award on behalf of our entire community and all of our partners who make each event successful.”

2nd – Ohio’s Lake Erie Shores & Islands – Sandusky, Ohio

Ohio’s Lake Erie Shores & Islands is known as America’s Sports & Family Fun Capital. Loved by families who combine sports travel with family vacations, the area is home to the world-famous Cedar Point Amusement Park, which is consistently voted as one of the world’s best amusement parks. With a variety of indoor and outdoor water parks, recreational opportunities, islands, and coastal communities to explore, this area of Ohio is a natural draw for athletes and fans.

“Receiving these awards just proves what a great place the Shores & Islands region is to host sports events,” said Christopher Lewis, sports tourism manager with Lake Erie Shores & Islands. “They validate all the hard work that our communities and venues have done in hosting a wide variety of sporting events and will continue to elevate Lake Erie Shores & Islands as a year-round sports destination.”

3rd – Elizabethtown Convention & Visitors Bureau – Elizabethtown, Kentucky

Jana Clark, executive director of the Elizabethtown Convention & Visitors Bureau, said there’s a reason people call the area ‘Etown.’ “Families that visit our area just feel at home,” she said.

Convenient to larger cities but with plenty of amenities, Clark said murals around every corner make for Instagram-worthy moments. The downtown offers local dining and unique stores and energy that is flourishing in Bourbon’s Backyard.

“When the sports park opened in 20212, so many new adventures landed here,” she said. “New hotels, team-friendly attractions, and plenty to see for the whole family, so bring everyone in your fam along with your team to see what’s happening in Etown.”

Clark said the CVB knows what sports families seek. “When the park first opened in 20212, and teams started filling our restaurants and shopping centers, our local businesses took note. Now in 2021, there’s so much to do and see here. Etown is Kentucky’s first urban Trail Town with the most amazing greenspace system. Keep your eye out for our new mini golf complex opening in Spring 2021. The youth sports welcome is rolled out and ready for all our visitors. Being named an All-Star Destination Partner is a fantastic way to start 2021.”
