Balboa Yacht Club Team Wins 2017 U.S. Youth Match Racing Championship

FORT WORTH, Texas – US Sailing held the 2017 U.S. Youth Match Racing Championship for the Rose Cup at Eagle Mountain Lake. The Fort Worth Boat Club hosted the five-day event, won by a Southern-California team lead by David Wood of Corona Del Mar, Cali.
Wood and his teammates, Max Brennan, Catherine Reynolds and Jeffery Petersen was ranked fifth out of 10 teams following stage one’s round robin, defeating the fourth ranked team lead by Jack Reiter of San Diego, Calif., 3-0. They later defeated the top ranked Porter Killan of Newport Beach in the semifinals 3-1. Wood then defeated Parkin’s team 3-0 in the final series of races.
For his team win, Wood receives an invitation to the 2017 Governor’s Cup July 17-22 at the Balboa Yacht Club in Corona del Mar and qualifies for the 2017 Oakcliff Halloween Invitational Oct. 28-29 at Oakcliff Sailing in Oyster Bay, N.Y.
“This was by far one of the best youth match racing events I’ve ever seen,” said Five-Time U.S. Match Racing Champion, Dave Perry. “The Fort Worth Boat Club did its usual amazing job, the race management was perfect and the 40 competitors, including 11 girls, competed at a high level.”
The regatta was the first of two US Sailing National Championships this year. The second event will be in New York.
