SALT LAKE CITY — USA Climbing announced the bid process to host one of USA Climbing’s premier 2021 premier events that include the National Team Trials, Youth National Championships and the National Championships.
The 2021 National Team Trials is a new event and will select Team USA to compete on the international competition circuit. The event will include the best climbers in the US. Vying for National Team spots. The competition venue needs to a large commercial climbing gym for the March 2021 event.
The Youth National Climbing Championships, slated for July 2021, will combine bouldering and lead and speed events for the first time ever into a single championship competition to create the largest youth climbing event in the U.S. The new event will bring the best young climbers in America together and provide an early look at athletes trying to make the Olympic team. A convention center or sports arena is the best fit for a competition of this size.
The National Climbing Championships in November 2021 will also combine bouldering and Lead and Speed competition into a single championship event. The championships will follow the 2021 Olympic Games and the new event is expected to draw the attention of the climbing community and new fans after the Olympic exposure. The championships are suited to a sports arena or outdoor public space.
“The events will feature the top climbers in the U.S. and enjoy extra attention as climbing makes its debut in 2021,” said John Muse, USA Climbing vice president of sport. “We are looking for great community partners to climb with us.”
The deadline to submit bids is July 31, 2020. The 2021 National Team Trials and 2021 Youth National Championships will be announced in September and the 2021 National Championships will be announced in October.
