VBR Hosts Two Cycling Events in October

VIRGINIA — Visit VBR announced that two cycling events will be held in October, including the VBR Gran Fondo and the Waid Park Sprint Enduro and Short Track XC.

            The Gran Fond will be held Oct. 11 at the new 1772 Rooftop on Main in the village of Fincastle Virginia with three routes – the 33, 45 and 75-mile course options featuring Botetourt County’s rolling hills, mountains and creek and river views.

            Adjustments for this year include staggered times beginning at 8 a.m., 9 a.m. and 10 a.m. with a boxed meal at the finish in the town of Fincastle or the 1772 Rooftop Bar.

            The short track cross country race this year is sanctioned under USA Cycling will take place Oct. 17 on the Shinerunner trail in Waid Park with jumps, berms, balance features and two stiff climbs in the short event. Race distances will range from either 2.5 or 5 miles.

            The main event in Rocky Mount, Va., is the inaugural Waid Park Sprint Enduro that using the newest progressive features built in the recently expanded Waid Park trail network. The trails feature rock gardens, man-made jumps and bast back-to-back corners.

            Pre-registration is required online. Because of COVID-19 measures, the event will be limited to 100 riders and not to exceed 250 people total in attendance.

            The event is presented by the Smith Mountain Lake Chamber of Commerce and the town of Rocky Mount.
