2017 U.S. Freestyle World Team Trials Set for June
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. — USA Wrestling’s 2017 U.S. Freestyle World Team Trials will be held at the Bob Devaney Center on the campus of the University of Nebraska on June 10 according to hosts, the Lincoln Convention and Visitors Bureau and the University of Nebraska.
The men’s freestyle event follows the UWW Junior Freestyle World Team Trials on Friday, June 9, at the Devaney Center. The two events feature top college and high school athletes.
The winners of the eight world championship weight classes in the U.S. Freestyle World Team Trials will earn spots on the U.S. World Team, which will compete in the World Wrestling Championship in Paris, France, August 21 – 26.
Winners of the UWW Junior Freestyle World Team Trials in the eight weight classes will earn spots on the U.S. Junior World Team competing at the UWW Junior World Wrestling Championships in Tampere, Finland, August 1 – 6.
Stand-out athletes expected to compete in the trials are Jordan Burroughs, a 2012 Olympic champion and three-time world champion, and James Green, a 2015 World bronze medalist.
Other top athletes expected to compete include Kyle Snyder, a 2016 Olympic champion, 2016 bronze medalist J’den Cox, 2016 World Champion Logan Stieber and 2016 U.S. Olympians Daniel Dennis and Frank Molinaro.
“The Lincoln Convention and Visitors Bureau has done a tremendous job organizing what will be a first-class competition,” Nebraska Head Coach and 2016 Olympic Team Coach Mark Manning said in a statement through USA Wrestling.
The UWW Junior Freestyle World Team Trials feature the best 17- to 20-year-old men’s freestyle wrestlers in the country. As many as 90 athletes are competing in the Senior World Team Trials and at least 80 athletes are competing in the UWW Junior World Team Trials.
