ERIE, Pa.—The next Erie Sports Commission’s Go Play Days will be hosted at DICK’S on Saturday, Sept. 21. This event will feature a free learn-to-play football camp for registered participants.

The camp will offer engaging drills and games designed to enhance teamwork and confidence. Participants will learn the fundamentals of football including the rules, catching, and passing.

Participants can select from two session times: the first at 10 a.m. for ages six through nine and the second at noon for ages 10 to 13. Each session will last 90 minutes. Although the event is free, pre-registration is required, with registration opening Sept. 9 and remaining open until full. Each session has a limit of 30 participants.

On June 8, DICK’S at Millcreek Mall unveiled its new outdoor athletic field, accessible from inside the store, providing the community with a premier venue for sports and recreational activities. The new outdoor space reflects DICK’S commitment to promoting physical fitness and offers an accessible location for athletes of all ages to hone their skills and enjoy outdoor sports.

“This Go Play Days session provides participants a fantastic opportunity to learn the fundamentals of football for free, while also promoting the importance of staying active and engaged in our community,” says Mark Jeanneret, executive director for the Erie Sports Commission. “By participating in sports, children not only develop physical skills and a love for the game, but they also learn valuable life lessons about teamwork, discipline, and perseverance. Events like these are crucial in fostering a sense of community and encouraging healthy, active lifestyles among our youth.”

Previous Go Play Day events have been hosted by the Erie Youth Hockey Association, Erie Pickleball Association, ASCEND Climbing, and Lakeshore BMX.
