The field
is set for the 143rd
2017 Kentucky Derby, also known as ‘The Greatest Two Minutes in Sports’, but
since the Derby is May 6, some facts and history will provide the entertainment
for now.

Kentucky Derby by the Numbers

• $300,000 stud fee for Tapit, the world’s most valuable sire.
• 522,000 cans of beer will be consumed.
• $192.6 million is the total amount wagered on the 2016 Kentucky Derby with $151.8 million paid on winning tickets.
• 127,000 mint juleps will be served during the Kentucky Derby weekend.
• 170,000 attendees are expected at this year’s Running of the Roses at Churchill Downs.
• $400 million is the economic impact on the region.

Derby Package Anyone?

If that’s not enough, how about a $100,000 Derby Package?  The Louisville Marriott Downtown announced the Best of the Bluegrass hospitality package for the 2017 Derby season.

The package allows guests to experience extraordinary elegance in the hotel’s 14th floor presidential suite beginning Thursday, May 4. The suite features a sweeping Ohio Riverfront and downtown views, a private butlers’ kitchen and bar and bartender service in suite.

The package includes two seats in the exclusive turf club for both the Kentucky Oaks and the Kentucky Derby with security escorts to the seats, a personally prepared breakfast daily in the presidential suite and a gourmet dinner Friday and Saturday evening prepared by Chef Graham Weber. It also includes 10 selected bourbons, which include Pappy Van Winkle’s Family Reserve 20 year, Blanton’s, Booker’s, Noah’s Mill, W.L. Weller 12 year, Four Roses Single Barrel, Jefferson’s Ocean Aged at Sea, Jefferson’s Reserve Groth Cask Finish, Old Forester Birthday Bourbon, and John E. Fitzgerald Larceny.

The price includes a personal butler, two tickets to the Derby Eve Gala celebration, travel to and from the Louisville International Airport, private tours of two of Kentucky’s distilleries, handicapping of the races, a custom Derby Hat, and a private hair stylist Friday and Saturday morning.
