Sports Commission Ports Record-Breaking Year

GULF SHORES/ORANGE BEACH, Ala.—The Gulf Shores & Orange Beach Sports Commission and the cities it represents hosted 88 events in the area in 2012, including 16 new events and two sports commission-owned events. 

The events brought in a record-breaking $22 million in total direct visitor spending and produced 64,076 room nights. This represents a $6 million increase from 2011 to 2012.

Some of the major events hosted in the area include the American Volleyball Coaches Association Collegiate Sand Volleyball Championship, the United States Specialty Sports Association Global World Series and the Alabama High School Athletic Association’s State Track Championship.
