LEXINGTON, KY — The University of Kentucky has partnered with a global esports company to build a gaming and esports program.
The collaboration with Gen.G is part of a larger campus initiative to leverage technology to maximize student success and build community. The venture is being led by two UK offices: Student and Academic Life and Information Technology Services.
The program will focus on three pillars of academic, community and professional development in collaboration with the UK esports Club. For more, visit uky.edu/esports/ or geng.gg.
UK and Gen.G will host a periodic speaker series to be streamed with gaming and esports executives, athletes and content creators. The University of Kentucky may also create a new academic course with a gaming-focused certificate program.
The partnership is part of the Smart Campus Initiative. The first initiative was the announcement last spring that UK would provide all first-year students with an iPad Air, Apple keyboard and Apple Pencil.
Established in 2017, Gen.G speaks to a generation that grew up on gaming. It’s ranked #6 on Forbes list of the world’s most valuable esports firms. It also owns and operates top teams in the leading esports markets, including: China, South Korea and the United States.
