Visit Loudoun Announces New Sports Tourism Brand

LEESBURG, Va. — Visit Loudoun unveiled Loudoun Sports Tourism to develop Loudoun County’s role as a leading destination for sporting events and organizations.

“We are increasing our presence in the sports market,” said Visit Loudoun President and CEO Beth Erickson. “Given the growth of sports tourism in recent years, combined with the addition of two new professional facilities opening this year, we wanted to create one unified brand to better position us as a hub for sports tourism,” she said.

Loudoun Sports Tourism officials will solicit, create and support sports-related activities, targeting youth and collegiate sporting events in addition to adult, amateur and professional tournaments.

Loudoun offers public parks, the Ion International Training Center that is expected to open in May, and the Loudoun United FC Soccer Stadium, in addition to other facilities.

“Loudoun County is uniquely positioned within the national sports tourism landscape,” said Dev Pathik, founder and CEO of Sports Facilities Advisory/Sports Facilities Management (SFA|SFM). “The destination offers historic and cultural amenities that can only be found in Northern Virginia. With continued growth in youth sports tourism, competition is also increasing. The time is now for destinations like Loudoun that want to capture their share of this booming sector of the tourism economy.”

Loudoun hosts baseball, figure skating, rugby, hockey, soccer and softball tournaments. With the opening of Ion, indoor activities, such as cheer and dance competitions, gymnastics, martial arts, volleyball and wrestling, will also be possible.
