WICHITA, Kan.—Visit Wichita has named Landon Arbuckle sports coordinator, adding a new member to its sports development team as the organization continues efforts to attract sporting events and strengthen Wichita’s reputation as a sports destination.
Arbuckle joins a team led by Josh Howell, vice president of sports development, alongside Jessica Viramontez, senior sports sales manager; Chris Spall, sports sales manager; and Spencer Olmstead, sports events manager.
In his new role, Arbuckle will support marketing Wichita to sports planners and rights holders nationwide while assisting with sports event operations. His responsibilities include administrative and project coordination, event support, volunteer recruitment, and promotion of Wichita as a host destination for tournaments, championships, and sports events of all sizes.
“Sporting events are an important driver of visitation and economic impact for our community,” says Josh Howell. “We are excited to welcome Landon to our team. His experience working with professional and collegiate sports organizations, combined with his passion for Wichita, will help us continue attracting events that showcase our city and create meaningful opportunities for visitors and residents alike.”
A recent graduate of the University of Kansas, Arbuckle earned a bachelor’s degree in marketing and sports management. During his time at KU, he worked with Kansas Athletics, supporting game-day operations, fan engagement initiatives, community outreach and sponsorship activations.
Arbuckle also served as an account executive for the Wichita Wind Surge, where he developed client relationships, supported game-day operations, and represented the organization throughout the community.
In addition, he completed an internship with Sporting Kansas City, working in ticket sales and fan services while enhancing the fan experience and supporting revenue-generating initiatives. His background includes experience in collegiate athletics, professional sports, and customer engagement.
“I’m excited for the opportunity to help grow Wichita’s reputation as a sports destination,” says Arbuckle. “Having grown up in the Wichita area and seeing firsthand the impact sports have on bringing people together, I look forward to helping attract events that benefit our community and showcase everything Wichita has to offer.”
Visit Wichita officials said Arbuckle’s experience will help support the city’s growing sports tourism industry and continued efforts to attract new events.
“Wichita has a tremendous sports community and a proven track record of hosting successful events,” Arbuckle adds. “I’m eager to work alongside our partners and help bring new opportunities to the city while creating memorable experiences for athletes, fans, and visitors.”
