CARRABASSETT VALLEY, Maine—Ryan Cochran-Siegle of Stocksboro, Vt., claimed his second title of the week’s Toyota U.S. Alpine Speed Championships at Sugarloaf with a time of 1:10.79 in the Super G.
Teammates River Radamus and Tommy Biesemeyer rounded out the men’s podium in 1:11.48 and 1:11.68, respectively.
Nina O’Brien defended her title as national Super G Champion for women with a run of 1:15.01. O’Brien was followed by teammates, AJ Hurt and Keely Cashman who finished at 1:15.20 and 1:15.64, respectively.
Sugarloaf and local fan favorite, Sam Morse, entered the top 20 with a time of 1:12.98 after battling a stomach bug.
Racing resumes at 9:45 a.m. Thursday, March 28, with the men’s and women’s Alpine Combined.
The U.S. Alpine Championship is the country’s most prestigious domestic alpine ski racing events. The championships give athletes a chance to gain a position on the U.S. Ski Team. Sugarloaf has hosted the championships seven times.
This is the first time that the U.S. Alpine Championships have split speed and technical disciplines into two separate events at different mountains. National championships in technical events will be awarded at the U.S. Alpine Championships at Waterville Valley, N.H., March 23-26.
