INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. — The Podium in Spokane, Wash., has been selected as the site for the 2022 USA Track & Field Indoor championships, according to USATF. The Podium is expected to be complete in Fall 2021. The championships are scheduled for February 25-26 and will serve as Team USATF’s qualifying meet for the World Athletics Indoor Championship that March.
The two-day competition will feature hundreds of the country’s best track & field athletes in events from 60- to 3,000-meters, field events, and the 3,000-meter race walk.
Spokane Sports and the Spokane Public Facilities District said the Podium will overlook downtown Spokane and connect to Riverfront Park where fans will be able to walk to hotels, restaurants, retail, and entertainment options near the Spokane Veterans Memorial Arena and the Spokane Convention Center.
The facility will include 135,000 square feet of concessions, vendors, management, medical, and medical training spaces with 75,000-square-feet of competition space, including a 200-meter hydraulically banked track oval with 60-meter warm-up straight lanes, a long/triple jump runway, a pole vault runway, high jump, weight throw and shot put areas.
With 3,000 permanent and 1,000 portable seats, fans will be close to the track & field action.
The new facility will also accommodate 16 volleyball courts, nine basketball courts, and 21 wrestling mats to provide flexible sports events space.
