KANSAS CITY — The Kansas City Chiefs won’t be playing for the NFL Championship title, but Kansas City architects, engineers and technology firms are. From 2009 to 2019, Kansas City-based firms have created more than 30 projects that are part of the venues hosting the Super Bowl, including at the Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta with its signature oculus roof designed by Bill Johnson of Kansas City’s HOK architecture and design firm.
Dimensional Innovations, an Overland Park, Kansas-based experience design firm, was hired by the stadium management team to oversee and implement sponsorship activity in the Mercedes-Benz Stadium to create memorable game-day experiences.
Other firms involved in design, technology, fan experience and building systems include: DLR Group, Henderson Engineers, HNTB, Black & Veatch and Dimensional Innovations.

“The big game is just a fraction of the global impact KC-based firms have on sports venues,” said Tom O’Grady, corporate president of HNTB. “If you’re an owner of a stadium, arena or ballpark anywhere in the world, you come to KC to create a world-class venue and fan experience.”

Kansas City firms have designed and engineered the stadiums hosting the past 10 Super Bowls, including the 71,000-seat Mercedes-Benz Stadium, the fan experience for Super Bowl LIII and others, including at NRG Stadium in Houston, MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, N.J., Levi Stadium in Santa Clara, Calif. and Memorial Coliseum in Los Angeles.
The Kansas City Area Development Council serves the 18-county, two-state Kansas City area by marketing the region’s business and lifestyle offerings.
